Big Vinyl Drawings take a stripped back approach. They are literally just the digitised version of my drawing blown up big, cut out of black vinyl and applied to slightly off white thick art paper.
This simple approach lets the drawing take centre stage and shows off the intricate line-work without the distraction of colour. Being a vinyl cut-out, they are not only hand drawn but go through the laborious and time consuming processes of plot-cutting and 'weeding' out excess vinyl, which reveals the layer which is stuck to the paper. Digital artwork has never been this hand crafted or time consuming!
The gallery below shows firstly the original photo of Amy the cat. My digital drawing is then shown. You'll notice that I've chosen not to draw Amy's whole body and to change the pose so it looks like she's sitting rather than standing. The third image shows the digital drawing followed by a closeup so you can see the details better and then Amy in her very traditional frame. The title photo shows the end of the 'weeding' process.
